How to Change Terminals & Connect Flights at Heathrow Airport

Heathrow is a large and complex airport, with four passenger terminals. These guides will show you how to change terminals and connect between flights.

Airside or Landside?

If you’re connecting flights at Heathrow, you need to find out whether you can use the airside transfer facilities, or whether you’ll need to pass the UK border and customs, then connect landside and check-in again.

You can use the airside transfer facilities if either of these two scenarios apply:

  • You’re travelling on a through-ticket on a single booking. Therefore if you have checked luggage, it will be checked through to your final destination, and there’s no need to pick it up and check it in again.
  • Or you’re travelling on two separate flight bookings, but you have no checked luggage and you already have your boarding pass for your second flight.

If you’re travelling on two separate bookings and you have checked luggage, you’ll need to transfer landside, picking up your luggage and checking it in again.
