Edinburgh Airport isn’t a ‘hub’ airport as such, but flight connections do often offer routes to Scottish islands.
Connecting from a Domestic Flight
Flights from the UK and Ireland disembark straight into the departures area of Edinburgh Airport, so this can make for an easy connection to your next flight, as there’s no need to go through passport control or security again. However, this is only the case if you are travelling with hand baggage only.
If you have checked luggage, it is most likely that you will have to exit the departure hall, collect your baggage, and re-check it again. Therefore if you are travelling with checked baggage, a connection of at least 2 hours is recommended.
Connecting from an International Flight
There is no international airside transit facility at Edinburgh Airport, so if you arrive on an international flight you will go straight through passport control and then landside into the arrivals area. This means you must collect any checked baggage, check it in again, then pass through security to get back into the departure hall. A connection of at least 2.5 hours is recommended, or longer if you cannot use the e-gates at passport control.
